A Quick Look Into the Arabic Language and Our NAATI Certified Arabic Translations

The Arabic Language

It comes as no surprise that the Arabic language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world with 29 countries and over 250 million speakers spread across several continents. Arabic is an ancient Semitic language which was mostly spoken during its origins and no written records can be found until the 7th century AD.

There are two types of Arabic: Modern Standard Arabic and Classical Arabic, with the former being used for most types of communication these days.

It is also one of the official languages of the United Nations, the African Union and the Arab League. Arabic is also the sacred language of the Koran and millions of Muslims around the world speak it.

Our Hindi NAATI Certified Translation Services and some interesting info on the Hindi language and scripts.

There are a number of languages and dialects spoken in India which belong to different language groups. The more prominent ones, the Indo-Aryan languages are spoken by 75% of the population while the Dravidian languages are spoken by 20% of Hindis. The remaining 5% belong to the Austroasiatic, Tibeto-Burman and a few minor language groups.

hindi alphabet background

According to the Indian Census of 2001, India has 122 major languages and 1599 secondary languages. Figures from other sources may differ, mainly because of differences in the definition of the terms “language” and “dialect”. Interestingly enough, the Indian Constitution does not award the status of national language to any Hindi language. The official languages of the Union Government of the Republic of India are in the Devanagari script and English.

Devanagari and the Hindi Language

Devanagari (deɪvəˈnɑːɡəriː), also called Nagari, the name of its parent writing system), is an abugida alphabet of India and Nepal. It is written from left to right and does not possess any distinct letter cases. One can recognise Devanagari for having a horizontal line running along the top of its full letters.

It has been the most commonly used script for writing Sanskrit, since the 19th century and is used to write in Nepali, Marathi and Maithili, among other languages and dialects. Gujarati used to be written in Devaganari. As the standardised script for Nepali, Marathi, Konkani and Bodo, it is one of the most commoly used and adopted writing systems in the world.

Foreign language skills and the revival of foreign language lessons in Australia

Whilst English is spoken worldwide, it seems that English-speaking countries still struggle to learn other languages. This language-learning crisis has been a long-term problem in Australia where more than three quarters of the population only spoke English by 2011.

multi-lingual

By the beginning of their final year of high school, 87% of Australian students have stopped learning a foreign language. This figure seem illogical in a multicultural country such as Australia where bilingualism should be recognised as a highly useful skill and language learning should be a priority. Australia’s complacent attitude regarding language studies is therefore unsustainable since it is partly based on the assumption that the dominance of English will continue indefinitely. Let’s take a quick look at Finland’s schooling system: They have one of the top 5 education systems in the world, children study up to three languages throughout their school years, 44% study a fourth language and 31% a fifth.

Why learn a foreign language?

The most popular language studied in Australia is Japanese, followed by French, Indonesian, and German. The benefits of learning another language are widely recognised. ACARA reports that “learning another language has been shown to extend students’ intellectual and analytical capabilities and strengthen their cognitive and general learning capabilities, such as creative and critical thinking.” A thorough language education also increases student’s future employment opportunities and career prospects.

Australians love to travel and it just make sense that language skills and travelling should go hand by hand. Immersion is commonly known as the most effective method to learn another language and engage with the world, as most people appreciate foreigners’ attempts to speak the local language.

Corporate Language Lessons in Melbourne and your success in Australia’s “Second Biggest City”

Melbourne, the country’s forefront in international performing and visual arts, enjoys an almost unanimous popular vote on being Australia’s cultural capital. One might also argue that it is the country’s TV, film and entertainment capital.

Beyond the glamour, Melbourne has had an impressive role in Australia’s financial boom and even though it lost its lead as the capital city of Australia to Sydney, Melbourne has maintained a rather impressive growth in business and employment that extended into the 2000s. In 2009, Melbourne was the least affected Australian city during the international financial crisis. During this time, more jobs were created in Melbourne than in any other city within Australia.

Melbourne bridge at night

Melbourne’s extremely diversified economy boasts particular strengths in the following fields: Finance, manufacturing, research and development, Information Technology, education, logistics, transportation and tourism. Melbourne is the home base for many of the biggest corporations – including five of the country’s largest companies. Evidently, Melbourne’s business and financial growth is unstoppable. The question is – Where do you fit in?

The cost of non-competitive language skills in the business world

Melbourne’s diversity in culture and languages is an important key characteristic that cannot be ignored. As everyone knows, it is imperative within the corporate world to have outstanding communication skills in order to succeed.

Without the appropriate communication and language skills, companies would miss out on opportunities and fall short on formal proposals and leads for new business that could potentially spur new growth.

Foreign language skills are also necessary, if not essential, in order to succeed in business negotiations, be it for structuring the specifics of a contract or memorandum of understanding or for establishing new international partnerships. But mainly, with large corporations working globally, foreign language skills are highly regarded and could give you that extra push to get that dream job or promotion you have been looking for. For companies, training your personnel in a foreign language will provide endless benefits.

TTS Offers Corporate Language Lessons in Melbourne
